Eat & Read is the brainchild of Jane Wolfe, Harvard Divinity School graduate and co-owner of Melba’s Poboy Shop in New Orleans.  Every year she invites a variety of authors to the restaurant for book signings, book giveaways, and conversation.  Authors have included Colson Whitehead, Michael Pollan, Sophfronia Scott, Sister Helen Prejean and many more. On May 5 Barbara will sign free copies of An Altar in the World, visit with customers, and enjoy a poboy.

All Creation Sings: 50th Anniversary Hymn Festival

The Yale Institute of Sacred Music at Yale celebrates its 50th anniversary this year with a host of special events including this Sunday afternoon Hymn Festival at Yale’s historic Woolsey Hall.  Dr. Felicia Barber will conduct an ecumenical community choir of 300 voices in concert with the Yale Camerata, a brass ensemble, gospel instrumentalists, and organists Drs. Nathaniel Gumbs and Bruce Neswick. The Reverends Jim Forbes and Barbara Brown Taylor will serve as guest preachers.  The event is free and open to the public.
